About Us

Vacationers love it here!

After one visit to Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands and you'll soon put our region at the top of your "Repeat Destinations" list.

our region summer

Many of those visitors come first and foremost for our gorgeous scenery. You'll find dramatic mountains, including the tallest in Pennsylvania, as well as the state's deepest river gorge. Our waters are a something-for-everyone collection of glassy ponds and lakes, clear, easy-flowing streams, majestic rivers...and the most challenging white water in the East.

Located in southwestern Pennsylvania, our three-county area (Fayette, Somerset and Westmoreland) welcomes millions of visitors each year-yet still remains a wonderful place to get away from the crowds and traffic of everyday life.

Hit the 150 Mile Trail

The Great Allegheny Passage, an award-winning 150-mile unpaved rail trail for hiking and biking, runs south/southeast through, over, around and even under some of our most beautiful mountains, forests and rivers, offering spectacular vistas all along the way. It's nearly flat, with no grades greater than 2%. And just below the Mason-Dixon Line, in Cumberland, Maryland, it links up with the C&O Canal Towpath, extending the total distance to 320 miles and effectively connecting Pittsburgh and Washington, DC.

Just a Few State Parks

Our region also contains a network of 8 Pennsylvania state parks, all offering free access and use of basic facilities. They offer everything you could possibly want if the entries on your list of favorite activities usually start with the word "outdoor."

Bushy-Run-long

Wonderful places to do it all...or do absolutely nothing

But the lovely landscape of Pennsylvania's Laurel Highlands is by no means our only attraction. Think of it as a setting for a masterpiece of a destination, full of rich details just waiting to be discovered and experienced.

Historically, our region holds a proud and distinguished place in the early years of our nation...and, in fact, the years before it was a nation. Several key battles of the French and Indian War were fought here. A 22-year-old George Washington assumed his first command here. Centuries-old fortresses dot the countryside.

And, more recently, the passengers of Flight 93 made their heroic last stand in the skies directly overhead.

Artistic Wonders

The Laurel Highlands are home to not one but three houses by the great American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Fallingwater, the best known of them, is visually stunning, blended into the landscape and literally extended over a waterfall. But all three Wright homes reward your visits with fascinating features and highlights.

Laurel-Caverns

In addition, our area boasts many art galleries,  crafts shops and exhibits, a wealth of live-performance theaters and musical venues, and a calendar full of festivals and events.

Underground Wonder

Pennsylvania's largest cave and geological park, Laurel Caverns is a spectacle that can't be missed. It even has an underground eighteen hole golf course!
