Latrobe Art Center presents its Annual Open Show June 1-30, 2020. Featuring artworks from local and regional artists, the Annual Open Show gives artists ages 3 and older a chance to display their work in a professional gallery space. This year, the show is going entirely virtual.
Artists who entered the Open Show were invited to submit up to three original artworks in any medium, in the submitting artist’s own original design and concept, and created within the last five years. Each artist has a chance to win cash prizes in five categories:
Prizes range from first place through third place in each category to Best in Show and Awards of Distinction in Pencil/Ink; Acrylic/Oil; Watercolor; Mixed Media; and Photography. The Latrobe Art League will also award two cash prizes—one to a professional artist, and one to a student artist.
Bill Karaffa is a practicing Pittsburgh-based creative who focuses on capturing the portrait/figure in many of his works. He is a current member of McMurray Art League, Pittsburgh Pastel Artists, the Pittsburgh Society of Artists Guild and the Portrait Society of America. Participation in life drawings session at many venues throughout the City are part of his weekly regiment. Bill focuses on the technical aspects of portraiture/ figure drawing and has been successful in a variety of juried art exhibitions.
Latrobe Art Center invites the public to attend the opening reception for this exhibition on Thursday, June 13 from 6 – 8 p.m. Wine, coffee, tea and light appetizers will be provided by Ricolita’s Café. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the show’s 85 artists, and find out the winners of this year’s awards when they are announced at the end of the night in an awards ceremony.
