Storytime: Long May She Wave, the True Story of Caroline Pickersgill and her Star-Spangled Creation

September 15, 2019

History is made of stories – and what better way to introduce young children to the past than through picture books! Children ages 3-9, accompanied by an adult, are invited to an educational read-aloud session followed by a hands-on activity.

Children may have heard the Star-Spangled Banner, but do they know the story of the flag and the seamstresses who created it? This read-aloud is just in time for the anniversary of the Battle of Fort McHenry.

Call the Westmoreland Historical Society at 724-836-1800 to give us a headcount. The program is free but space is limited. On the day of the program, participants will meet at the Westmoreland History Education Center at Historic Hanna's Town.

This program is generously supported by The Mendel & Sylvia Solomon Charitable Trust through The PNC Charitable Trust Grant Review Committee.
