“It’s just a piece of paper”… begin with “nothing", cut parts away, and then you have more than you started with!
This introduction to the art form will familiarize students with hands-on techniques involving scissors and an exacto knife.
Cutting exercises will include preliminary concepts of positive and negative areas, and symmetrical designs.
Examples by beginner papercutters and by experienced cut-paper-artists, and a collection of resource books will be shared.
Students will learn sources to acquire their personal materials and tools.
A variety of “project” approaches will be demonstrated and offered for practice to develop cutting skills and confidence.
Students will become more aware of papercutting traditions, and will leave this session knowing basic cutting techniques.
Class takes place on the second floor at Laurel Arts Dressler Center location.

We will need a minimum of 3 students for each session!
Scissors and Xactos with cutting mats will be available for use.
