In this class, participants will learn about and create several ubiquitous ladies accessories from the 18th century— A plain pocket, a triangular linen neck handkerchief, a silk bonnet, and a pair of fancy garters. We will look at artworks and photographs of museum examples for each item, and then work create our own unique accessories from historically appropriate materials using historical sewing and construction techniques. Participants will leave the weekend well on their way to completing a set of beautiful and useful accessories for their 18th century ensembles.
Students should be comfortable with Running Stitch, Back Stitch, Whip Stitch, and Standard and Rolled Hem Stitches. Materials will be provided, but students can bring their own to be approved by instructor.
