Homeowners planning construction or home improvement projects will appreciate learning how to protect themselves from home improvement fraud in a program at Laurelville Retreat Center.

James Rega II of Rega Investigative Group in Mt. Pleasant will present a detailed community program about how to avoid construction scams. “Learning about requirements and laws ahead of time is the best way not to get scammed or cheated,” said presenter James P. Rega II, president and chief investigator of Rega Investigative Group, LLC. “Knowledge is power.”

In this 90-minute presentation, Mr. Rega will cover: what is the Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act? The limits of a down payment a contractor can require under the act; types of home improvement fraud and identifying red flag indicators; how to verify a contractor is in good standing; what information a home improvement contract must contain under PA law; auditing the project’s progress/holding the contractor accountable, and steps to take when a homeowner suspects fraud or breach of contract.
