Latrobe Art Center presents its Annual Open Show from now through June 29, 2019. Featuring 200 artworks from 85 local and regional artists, the Annual Open Show gives artists ages 3 and older a chance to display their work in a professional gallery space.

“This is the one time each year that artists who are not regular exhibiting artists at our gallery can show off their skills to the Greater Latrobe community,” says Lauren Buches, director of the Art Center.

“To see a five-year-old aspiring artist’s colored pencil drawing in the same space as a professional artist’s watercolor may give that child a chance to dream of what they can one day become if they keep creating art.”

Artists who entered the Open Show were invited to submit up to three original artworks in any medium, in the submitting artist’s own original design and concept, and created within the last five years. Each artist has a chance to win cash prizes in five categories:

  • Open Division—original work and composition by an established artist.
  • Amateur Artist Division—an artist with little experience and who has not won any previous prizes in the annual open show.
  • College Artist Division—any artist ages 18-21 who is currently enrolled in college.
  • Junior Artist Division—any artist ages 14-17.
  • Young Artist Division—any artist ages 3-13.

Prizes range from first place through third place in each category to Best in Show and Awards of Distinction in Pencil/Ink; Acrylic/Oil; Watercolor; Mixed Media; and Photography. The Latrobe Art League will also award two cash prizes—one to a professional artist, and one to a student artist.

Joining the exhibition is regional artist Lauren Scavo-Fulk as the judge. Scavo-Fulk is a recent Master of Fine Arts graduate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her work has recently been exhibited at Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, OH; The Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, PA; Dacia Gallery in New York, NY; Penn State Altoona; Penn State New Kensington; and Sweetwater Center for the Arts in Sewickley, PA.

Latrobe Art Center invites the public to attend the opening reception for this exhibition on Thursday, June 13 from 6 – 8 p.m. Wine, coffee, tea and light appetizers will be provided by Ricolita’s Café. Guests will have the opportunity to meet the show’s 85 artists, and find out the winners of this year’s awards when they are announced at the end of the night in an awards ceremony.
