Overview

From July 24-28, 2002, millions worldwide watched and waited as rescuers worked around the clock to save nine men trapped in the flooded Quecreek mine. For 77 hours, rescuers faced setback after setback as they raced to bring all nine miners home alive. Miraculously, in the early morning hours of July 28, the miners were brought safely to the surface, one by one, in what was undoubtedly a feel-good moment for a community and a nation still reeling from the tragedy of September 11, 2001, just 10 months earlier.

A commemoration ceremony will be held at approximately 10 a.m. Free tours of the visitor center will be available throughout the day.
