Scout groups will find the Laurel Highlands the perfect place to have fun and earn badges.

The PA Laurel Highlands is an outdoor world of wonder well-suited for scouting excursions large and small. Over the course of a few days in Western Pennsylvania, scouts can earn multiple patches while interacting with nature.

Many of our region's providers and outfitters have roots in scouting programs and offer excursions specifically designed to earn merit badges (kayaking, whitewater, climbing & mountain biking are among the most popular).

Nature Badges

With over a dozen state and national parks in the region, there are countless opportunities for earning badges: Hiking, Geocaching, Backpacking, Orienteering, Nature and Forestry badges to name a few. And camping badges can be earned by using the campsite or backwoods camping locations that match to the age group of the youth (more convenient camping can be arranged at the many cabin and campgrounds located throughout our three-county region).

Recreational Badges

The abundant outdoor recreation in the Laurel Highlands brings more opportunities for fun, learning and badge earning. Badges are regularly earned for sports, kayaking, whitewater, canoeing, climbing, mountain biking, fishing, and snow sports.

Kayaking and whitewater rafting trips are among the most popular and exciting ways to earn recreational badges on a scouting trip to Western Pennsylvania.

Unique Opportunities

And Frank Lloyd Wright's most famous home, Fallingwater, offers one of the most unique opportunities to earn Architecture and Landscape Architecture badges. In addition to this awesome example of "organic architecture," there are two additional Frank Lloyd properties in the PA Laurel Highlands, Kentuck Knob and the Duncan House.
