We are pleased to be showcasing our World War 2 era murals as part of the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council's "Somerset Mural Tour." The tour starts at the Somerset Post Office and will proceed to the library from there.
For more info and how to sign up, visit Pittsburgh Art Council's event site using the link provided in this listing. Here is an excerpt of their event description:
"Enjoy a Saturday afternoon strolling through the picturesque town of Somerset. Join the Office of Public Art as we lead a walking tour through town viewing several murals from the 1930s and 1940s by former Carnegie Institute of Technology (now Carnegie Mellon University) professors: Alexander J. Kostellow, Kindred McLeary, and Esther Topp at the post office and the Mary S. Biesecker Library. During the 1930s and 1940s, many Carnegie Institute of Technology art faculty spent their summer vacations in Somerset painting, collaborating, and leading various workshops and classes. Leaders in their respective fields of industrial design and painting, faculty such as Kostellow, McLeary, and Topp made Somerset their second home where their work and legacy are still visible today."
