Native Plant Sale
- May 27, 2017
Milkweed, purple coneflower, cardinal flower, and evening primrose are just some of the 37 different species of plants native to Pennsylvania being sold at Ohiopyle State Park on May 27th, from 9:00 am – 3:00 pm at the main falls area. The sale is being sponsored by the Southern Laurel Highlands Plant and Pest Management Partnership (SLHPPMP). SLHPPMP is a group of organizations, private companies and individuals who are working to decrease the pressure invasive species are having on our wildlands. The native plants at this year’s sale are also being grown by SLHPPMP.
Native plants are good for wildlife and help decrease the spread of invasive plants. Many of our pollinator species including butterflies and bees are suffering from population decline. Having a healthy mix of native flowering plants is critical to their survival. Planting native plants can be a beautiful way to turn your yard into a beneficial oasis.
