Saturday, August 19, 11 am - 4 pm & Sunday, August 20, 1 pm - 5 pm
The Ligonier Valley Historical Society’s Compass Inn Museum is hosting Proctor’s Militia, I.B.W.C.P. during the Militia and the Frontier: Living History Weekend August 19-20, 2017.
A Revolutionary War militia unit mustered out of Westmoreland County, Proctor’s Militia will be camping on the grounds of the museum over the weekend. “The encampment will give visitors a chance to experience what life was like for the militia unit, interact with the men, and witness drill demonstrations,” said Malori Stevenson, Program Coordinator of the Museum. “The period this unit represents, the second half of the 18th century, is the environment in which our Inn was built.”
In addition to the encampment, there will be blacksmithing and cooking demonstrations in the blacksmith forge and cookhouse. Guided tours of Compass Inn and the restored stagecoach and Conestoga Wagon will also be offered.
To take full advantage of the tour and demonstrations, it is suggested that at least two hours be allotted for your visit. Leave time to stop by the Museum Store where you will find handcrafted items made by local artisans.
