Design it, carve it, and display it to help “light up the night” with the Ligonier Valley Historical Society’s first Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest Saturday, October 22 at Compass Inn Museum. Families and individuals are encouraged to participate! There is no fee to enter. Pumpkins can be carved, painted or decorated. They can be created using free-hand design as well as carving kits and patterns. Entries should be free-standing and only battery operated candles be used. So, show off your skills and enter today! The Historical Society will be accepting entries between 11 am to 1:30 pm Saturday, October 22 at Compass Inn Museum located at 1382 Route 30 East, Laughlintown PA, 15655. Pre-registration is encouraged but participants may also register onsite when they drop off their carving.
All entries will be on display at Compass Inn Museum from 6 to 9 pm the evening of Saturday, October 22 during the Halloween Hauntings Storytelling Tours. Winners in each category will be picked through a popular vote by that evening’s “Halloween Hauntings” Tour attendees. The three categories are: Juniors (ages 12 & under), Adults (ages 13 & up), and Families (mixed ages).
Winners need not be present as they will be contacted the following day. First, Second, and Third Place winners will be voted on in each of the three categories. First Place winners will receive $75, Second Place winners will receive $50, and Third Place winners will receive $25. Also, each winner will receive 2 free admissions to the October 28th or 29th “Halloween Hauntings” Storytelling Tours. All entries, including winners, will also be on display during the October 28th and 29th Halloween Haunting Storytelling Tours from 6 to 9 pm.
“We know there are folks who are looking forward to putting their creative juices to work. So if that is you and you enjoy getting up to your elbows in a pumpkin, don’t delay. Start designing your carving right away and you can share your creativity with us,” said Theresa Gay Roahll, Executive Director.
“It is going to be great fun for everyone to see what masterpiece are entered and it will enhance the experience of visitors to our “Halloween Hauntings” Storytelling Tours,” added Program Coordinator and Innkeeper, Malori Stevenon.
“Halloween Hauntings” Storytelling Tours are “hauntingly good" fun! For 2016, they will be held from 6-9 pm Saturday October 22, Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October, 29. Enjoy the fascinating stories of the various inhabitants and travelers who stayed at the inn and hear the fabled ghost stories that surround them and others. This unforgettable and ethereal entertaining excursion includes a candlelight tour of the inn, cookhouse and blacksmith shop. So while you are visiting the past, you might just feel a presence as you explore the buildings and grounds of Compass Inn Museum.
