The Blind Pig Party is a country-style speakeasy FUN-raiser to help build the new distillery at West Overton Village and Museums, southeast of Pittsburgh.
The event will be held Thursday, July 21, from 6-8 p.m. in the Big Barn. Tickets are $50 and must be purchased in advance. Space is limited.
To dodge Prohibition’s no-alcohol-sales law, saloons would sell tickets to see a “blind pig” or “blind tiger” and serve complimentary alcoholic beverages. In keeping with that rebellious spirit, West Overton’s “Blind Pig Party” will offer samples of eight local craft beers, a sumptuous sit-down, meat-lovers’ meal (a pig roast) with baked potato bar and food grown in the museum’s gardens; a S’mores bar and fire pit; casino games; and live music by Pittsburgh’s The Weathered Road.
“The 1920s Prohibition theme ties in with the new exhibit we added to the Distillery Museum, ‘Prohibition and the Rise of Organized Crime in America,’” said Managing Director Jessica Kadie-Barclay. “Ticket sales have been brisk and less than 200 are available. This event will celebrate local craft brewers the way we showcased local distillers at our Whiskey Smash event in November.”
Four local craft brewers will each offer two of their creations to sample: All Saints Brewery, of Greensburg; Bloom Brew of West Newton; Helltown Brewery, of Mt. Pleasant, and Quinn Brewing Company, of Irwin.
Tickets must be purchased in advance, and guests must be 21 or older to attend. To buy tickets, visit the website under “events,” or call 724-887-7910, ext. 3. The dress is party casual.
