The Community Arts Center of Cambria County is holding their third annual Artists on the Lawn event at a NEW premier location in Downtown Johnstown, PA. Artists on the Lawn event will take place Saturday, June 24th, from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
Artists on the Lawn will be a free, family-friendly experience partnered with Thunder in the Valley. It is our objective to provide free educational and cultural attractions to the public, as well as a relaxed environment where art enthusiasts can watch the artist’s work throughout the day. Interacting and asking questions of the artists about their current works/projects is strongly encouraged. Each artist may have some art pieces available for sale. Artists will be selected to create a balanced mix of art so that the Artists on the Lawn represent a good cross section of mix media artists.
CACCC is interested in all Artists/Art Makers wanting to participate in an outdoor creative art environment where they can work on their current pieces. Individuals interested in taking part in this unique event, and are able and willing to publicly work on a current piece or demonstrate their art, are encouraged to register for the event through June 19th with the Community Arts Center. Artists on the Lawn is taking place in partnership with the Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Convention & Visitors Bureau during Thunder in the Valley.
Participating artists will be at one of two locations in Downtown Johnstown, Central Park, Main St, Johnstown, PA 15901 or PNG Park, 90 Johns St, Johnstown, PA 15901. Registration Deadline is June 19, 2017, all applications received after June 19th will be $60.00, regardless of membership status. Regardless of weather conditions, Artists on the Lawn will take place, Saturday, June 24, 2017.
After morning set-up, we expect each artist to spend the day working on a current project or perhaps starting a new piece. The openness of the event is to promote an artist’s creative process to individuals that may not have a typical avenue of finding art/artists, along with experiencing the artist’s inventive process. Check-In will be from 9:00am-10:00am on June 24th at the artists designated location, either in the Central Park or PNG Park.
“Thunder in the Valley is proud to partner with the Community Arts Center of Cambria County to bring a unique artistic element to our 20th annual motorcycle rally.” - Nicole Waligora, Sports Travel Program Coordinator for Greater Johnstown/Cambria County Convention & Visitors Bureau
“Artists on the Lawn is an amazing showcase of artistry in its natural, raw form. The demonstration of artists and makers in an open platform truly captures any passerby and makes art a much more attainable concept. This event gives art an approachable conduit for the public to view the artists process and ask questions. Perhaps, finding an interest in themselves by what they see the artist create. As a culture, we continue to evolve through art and creativity, many times it’s forgotten that the past is what shapes us into who we are. The arts have always been a transparent reflection of truth, regardless of the particulars influencing society at that time. Art has always been an avenue of expression to tell the world a story.” - Angela R. Godin, Executive Director
