At 335 miles, it’s one of the longest dedicated bicycle trails in America. That alone should interest even the weekend cyclist, but length isn’t the route’s major attraction. Connecting Pittsburgh and Washington, D.C., the trail parallels two historic rivers — the Monongahela and the Youghiogheny — before it crests the green summit of the Allegheny Mountains and then follows the broad Potomac River all the way to tidewater. For a trip combining scenery, history and exercise, it would be hard to imagine a better choice.
